Veolia in Northern Ireland has been awarded the highest level of achievement - Platinum - in the Business & Biodiversity Charter, an external assessment of an organisation’s commitment to improve biodiversity conservation in Northern Ireland and on Earth.
The Business & Biodiversity Charter is an initiative of responsible business network Business in the Community, which helps businesses implement biodiversity initiatives and provides external recognition of measures already in place to ensure that plants, animals, bugs, bacteria, habitats and humans can thrive and work effectively and in balance.
We are committed to saving resources, carbon reduction and building a sustainable future, while investing in the communities we work so closely with
To secure this highest level of accreditation, Veolia have taken significant actions, including setting aside dedicated land at our sites specifically for long-term nature conservation and restoration. We have also established a local biodiversity network steering group to collaborate with community organisations on initiatives like wildlife gardening. Furthermore, we are committed to fostering local ecological resilience by engaging with local schools to deliver biodiversity education, helping to inspire the next generation to protect our environment.
Dr Lisa McIlvenna, Managing Director, Business in the Community NI said:
“We are delighted to recognise Veolia in Northern Ireland with Platinum level achievement in the Business & Biodiversity Charter.
“Enhancing biodiversity is fundamental for ensuring a sustainable future for all and ensuring long-term business survival. Many businesses and their suppliers rely on stable, healthy ecosystems for their production processes and to treat and dissipate waste, so it is imperative that companies take action to ensure our natural environment is protected.”
